Artist Profile:
Robert Robin Brown was born in West Texas and had the
good fortune of being born into a family of music lovers
and musicians. This had occurred during the cold war
era, post WWII in the Panhandle of Texas. Robin like
most rural youngsters of this time grew-up listening to Hank
Williams, Grand Ol' Opry and later Elvis Presley while
studying guitar with his brother Bennie. In 1958, at
the young age of thirteen he founded his first band,
the Swing Kings of Matador, Tx, a band that played
dixieland instrumentals.
By the early sixties he
had graduated to Rock'n Roll and rockabilly music. A
great influence on his early guitar playing was George
Tomsco of the Fireballs and also he loved the Ventures. Being
somewhat multi-talented Robin wrote his first song in
1957 but a Hollywood song-shark used this song to bilk
his father of $100. In 1964 with Ronnie Hester and John Holcombe he
formed a rock band "The Westwinds" in Canyon, Tx
while attending college, and they became popular around
the region.
After recording at Norman Petty's studio
(Clovis), Ray Ruff's Studio (Amarillo) and also
playing onstage for several years professionally, in
1975 he moved to Nashville to pursue a songwriting
career. He met a lot of important people but wasn't successful in getting songs recorded so
after one year there he gave-up his dream and returned
to Texas. Although his dreams were postponed until
recently he has now made available these original and early
songs as a tribute to all those that once believed
in him. Hopefully you will find
in Robin's music a lyric, a tune or a story that you
can personally relate to. A song that will
bring back for at least a moment the feeling of those magic fifties
and sixties!
